Background/Context:
Inspired by Peguis and Fisher River, Sioux Valley Dakota Nation wanted to improve home energy use, lower costs, and create local jobs.
The Challenge:
Old homes were expensive to heat, and there were few clean energy job opportunities in the community.
The Solution:
25 homes were upgraded with energy efficiency retrofits and geothermal systems. Community members were trained by Aki Energy and the Nation’s housing team.
Expected Results:
- $1.8M invested
- 25 homes retrofitted
- 5 community members trained and certified
- $728,400 in long-term energy bill savings
- Significant reduction in GHG emissions
